About Ecomambo

Mission

Ecomambo identifies volunteer placements with small or medium local organisations in Africa and promotes these placements in order to attract volunteers to help out at these projects. We only work with organisations that work responsible and ensure sustainability for people, nature and environment. On the website we encourage volunteers to inform each other, to ensure you can make the right decisions. We do not charge anything for the use of our website, but we require you register if you want to use or contribute to the website's information. Note that we do not offer any projects ourselves, all projects are provided by the organisations which are mentioned with that specific project. If you want to contact a organisation you need to login before you can use our contact forms.

Background

Ecomambo was founded in 2010 by Maikel Koopman. After he had done several volunteering projects he found there were no comprihensive international easy-to-access resources providing objective information for people who want to volunteer in Africa. Projects were difficult to compare and it was difficult to find people to share your experiences with or ask questions. 

For Volunteers

On our website you can find and apply for all sorts of projects in Africa. Use the filter functions to find your prefered project fast and easy. Become a member and be able to apply and contact organisations, post to the forum and connect with other members. Perhaps you want to find a travel buddy or you are looking for someone who has been at a specific placement before. You can also present yourself at your personal page in our community. Post on other user's walls and use our internal messaging system.

For Project Organisations

Are looking for a great way to advertise your project to gain a constant stream of volunteers who can help you out achieving your goals? Wouldn't it be great if this would cost you no more than a little bit of your time? Ecomambo offers your organisation the opportunity to list your project(s) on this website for free! All you have to do is register yourself on this website and get yourself a subscription as an organisation through your profile page. After verifying your project, we give rights to your account where you can easily submit and manage your listings. You can also contribute on our forums, actively approach volunteers in the community and gain more exposure with submitting (news) articles or paid advertising.
