Manafort Defense: Indictment Based on ‘Tenuous Legal Theory’

On Thursday, lawyers for former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort argued that the case against him is based on dubious legal theories and that no need exists for him to post millions of dollars in collateral in oder to ensure that he will appear for his trial. On Monday, a magistrate judge released Manafort and his business partner Rick Gates on the condition that they remain confined to their homes, with limited exceptions for legal meetings, court appearances, medical appointments and religious observances. Manafort’s defense lawyers said that he should not have to pledge any specific assets for his bond, arguing that he is not likely to try to run.
