Background

Community Agriculture and Environmental protection Association is a non political, non profit making body. It is an educative and a research body that was born with the mission to enhance community health, Agriculture and to enhance environmental protection within Cameroonian communities and beyond.   CAEPA wants to build a computer lab for young people in Cameroon.This is to enhance their knowledge on ICD4T .We are in the computer age and the youths badly need training in computer and other communication Technology knowledge. We are looking for volunteers to set up and give basic training to youths on ICT skills.The use of social media will be of great help and other relevant topics

Role of Volunteer

We are looking for volunteers to set up and give basic training to youths on ICT skills.The use of social media will be of great help and other relevant topics

Accommodation

Family Accommodations: Housing. A good house with electricity with a very conducive environment is 25000 FRS monthly. Cost of Living: Below is an estimated sketch of the cost involving volunteering in ngoketunjia Division, Cameroon. 1. Cost of food per week. It is estimated that an international volunteer could spend 7000 Frs. CFA per week, This is the highest amount each volunteer could spend on food per week. Sometimes CAEPA will subsidize with foodstuff. 2. Cooking. A volunteer could decide to cook for him or herself. He or she has to buy the kitchen utensils worth 30 000 FRS, gas, gas plate etc, If he or she has to employ a cook the payment per month will be 25000 FRS, if it is couple it will be 30000. Cleaner. A volunteer, if he or she so wills can employ a cleaner, who cleans the house and surrounding twice a week, washes his or her clothes twice a week at 10 000frs per month. 4. Transportation. Weekly transportation’s are worth 5000 FRS, It can also go up to 5000 FRS to 10 000 FRS if the volunteer visits the main town Bamenda, or other towns like Ndop. The transport fare from Balikumbat to Bamenda and back is about 5000 FRS including food money and taxi money. 5. Trips, Excursions. A CAEPA field worker will always take the volunteer around to spectacular sites the volunteer will want to visit. There is the Ijim Mountain Forest in Belo, the famous lake Oku, Caves, Traditional compounds that still retain traditional houses made of bamboo, The Fons palace with wonderful things of antiquity, the hillyBalikumbat plateaux etc. 6. Warmth and hospitality of the Balikumbat people in Cameroon. The Kom people in Cameroon are noted for their hospitality and high regard of strangers. It is very common to hear someone say, “My foreigner”. CAEPA will provide a volunteer assistant to be available to you during your stay if you have question, concerns or any difficulties with adjusting.

Travel Info

Upon conclusion the Coordinator will issue an invitation letter that will facilitate the acquisition of your visa.The volunteer will pay a pick up fee of 80Eiros from the airport to the project site.

It is estimated that an international volunteer could spend 5500 Frs. CFA per week, which is about 13 US dollars. This is the highest amount each volunteer could spend on food per week. Sometimes CAEPA will subsidize with foodstuff. 2. Cooking. A volunteer could decide to cook for him or herself. He or she has to buy the kitchen utensils worth 30 000 FRS, gas, gas plate etc, that is about 71 US dollars. If he or she has to employ a cook the payment per month will be 25000 FRS, if it is couple it will be 30000 FRS. 25000 FRS is about 59 US dollars. 3. Cleaner. A volunteer, if he or she so wills can employ a cleaner, who cleans the house and surrounding twice a week, washes his or her clothes twice a week at 10 000frs per month. 4. Transportation. Weekly transportation’s are worth 3000 FRS, about 7 US dollars. It can also go up to 5000 FRS to 10 000 FRS if the volunteer visits other places, or other towns like Ndop. The transport fare from Bamenda to Ndop and back is about 4000 FRS including food money and taxi money. It should be noted that the value of a dollar now with the CFA francs is 420 FRS to one dollar.CAEPA will have to play its part to support and make the opportunity a success.
